I find it perplexing that for most of my high school years at NT, a female has
\nnot been in the position of president of NT\u2019s Student Council. It has been four
\nyears since we had our last female president.\u00a0 But why the continued trend of electing a male president? Is it a tradition to elect a male as President?
\nDo our male elected presidents have something in common lacking in our
\nfemale runners?\u00a0 Or was it really all about Isaac and Martin\u2019s wit and charm and James\u2019 intelligence? I really can\u2019t pinpoint a particular reason why it has been so long since we have elected a female school president, but it is long overdue.<\/p>\n
With no offence to all our male Student Council Leaders, who have made important
\ncontributions to our school, girls can bring to the table just as much as the boys
\ncan, if not more.\u00a0 Female leadership brings about a quality of caring.They are outgoing, confident, energetic and definitely sociable.\u00a0 Motivating pride and inspiring our student body is second nature.\u00a0They are honest and intelligent, and they get the job done.<\/p>\n
North Toronto needs the female voice again. The voice that that will support the
\nstudent body\u2019s opinion and bring out the spirit of NT. We need to be careful
\nnot to get steeped in a culture where roles are formed for males and females,
\nand we should not trade off having gender diversity over excellence. The
\nstudent body should aim to elect the most qualified individual and I think NT
\nhas some very qualified potential female candidates.\u00a0 Unfortunately, I don\u2019t think we girls are putting ourselves out there.\u00a0 What is it girls?\u00a0 Don\u2019t we like the limelight?\u00a0 Are we intimidated?\u00a0 Do you feel you won\u2019t be seriously considered?<\/p>\n
So come on ladies, get out there and make a difference at NT.\u00a0 Showcase what you got and work hard to get the top job.\u00a0 After all, Beyonc\u00e9 said that \u201cgirls run the world!\u201d And to the NT student body, get out of your comfort zone and get ready for this year\u2019s school election!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
