My closet contains many different articles of clothing, from old hand-me-downs to odd sweaters given to me by relatives, and items that are just too small for me. However, there are some items in my closet that I consider to be my essentials: items of clothing I cannot live without, especially in the winter season. Winter is considered to be a time of year when students wear sweatpants and baggy sweaters everyday and fashion is out of the question. If you consider yourself to be one of those people, my winter closet essentials might be the cure to your winter fashion nightmare.

Fleece-lined leggings. During the winter, I always found it difficult to wear jeans on their own and often times my legs ended up freezing. Then I found fleece-lined leggings. Under jeans in the winter, they’re a lifesaver, whether I’m skiing or walking in a snow blizzard down Yonge and Eglington.

Booties. I consider booties to be in my top essential items because it doesn’t matter if you’re dressing up or dressing down, booties are your best friend. Be it black or brown, you can pair them with dress pants, jeans, dresses, or leggings.

Chunky sweaters. Chunky sweaters are one of the main reasons I love winter. Whether it’s a turtleneck, crew neck or v neck, chunky sweaters can make an outfit.

Leather sneakers. Unlike canvas sneakers, leather is perfect for winter. It’s water-resistant and can be worn in snow and rain, faux leather included.

Mom jeans. There is nothing worse than wearing tight jeans in the winter. Not only are they thin and unsuitable in cold weather, but they’re also uncomfortable compared to sweatpants. Luckily, there is a solution, mom jeans. Mom jeans have the same look as your classic jeans, yet they’re much more comfortable. Plus, you can wear leggings underneath for extra warmth.

High socks. During the winter season, high socks have saved my life. Not only can you wear them with mom jeans and a pair of sneakers, but you can also pair it with booties for a dressier look.

Blanket scarf. Blanket scarves are the best way to make a plain winter outfit look more classic and put together. Unlike normal-sized scarfs, blanket scarfs are much warmer and cover more surface area.
