North Toronto’s Junior Girls’ Basketball team has once again dominated the competition, winning their second successive City Championship, thrashing the Downsview SS by a score of 61-12.
The girls took their games by storm, posting an unstoppable 5-0 record during the regular season. Offence was definitely firing on all cylinders as the girls combined to score a whopping 274 points in those 5 games alone, the most points scored in the whole South Region. That is almost an average of 55 buckets per game!
Throughout the playoffs, leading up to their Tier 1 final, the girls continued to rack up an extraordinary offensive feat by outscoring their opponents 186-73. To reach the final, the team dominated Monarch Park CI, 68-17 in the Quarter-Finals. NT ousted Lawrence Park CI by 16 points, 45-29, in the Semi-Finals. They stacked up against a perennial championship contenders in the Tier 1 Final against Leaside HS who finished second in the standings behind NT with a 4-1 record. Leaside’s sole loss was suffered here at NT’s home court by the hands of our girls. Once again, the NT girls showed absolute power, handling the final game well and winning in stunning fashion, 73-27 to claim the TDSB South Region Title.
This achievement cannot be recognized without the help of Ms. Johnson and Coach Curtis Anderson who each took time out of their busy schedules to run practices and lead the girls to success. Commitment and team work by the players and coaching staff lead to a recipe for winning.
Congratulations to the girls by working your tails off and bringing home the hardware to prove it. You are all truly great ambassadors for the game of basketball and for North Toronto CI.
